Genelle A. Clements, of Tekamah, died Sunday Dec. 7, 2003, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Memorial services will be 10:30a.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. Interment will be in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Genelle A. Clements was born Nov. 30, 1945, in Stromsburg to Gerald and Della May (Whited) Schott. She grew up in Clarks, were she graduated from high school in 1963. She lived in Colorado and then in Omaha, where she worked at Capital Beauty Supply. She later received a dietary certificate from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.

On Feb. 27, 1966, she married Robert Ervin Clements in Clarks. Over the years, the family lived in Arlington and Herman, before settling in Tekamah, where they lived for the past 25 years.

Mrs. Clements served the community in many ways through her occupation, volunteerism and personal touches. She was head dietician at the Tekamah Health and Rehab Center before becoming a businesswoman by opening up The Kitchen Shop which later became the Florist Boutique. In 1988, she became the director of the Golden Age Center, which was later renamed the Orville and Willa Chatt Senior Center. Under her direction, the program facilities and resources expanded to become an asset to Tekamah and the surrounding areas. Her work was recognized by the Tekamah Chamber of Commerce when she was named as the Employee of the year in 1998.

She was also active in the community through various organizations, such as the Mrs. Jaycees. She helped found the Mrs. Jaycees chapter in Arlington. She was a sponsor of Nebraska Junior Miss Pageants and continued to serve as a judge at area pageants.

She was recognized for her leadership by being named as Key Woman and Outstanding Mrs. Jaycee of the Year in Nebraska in 1975. In 1976, she was named vice president of the State Board of the Mrs. Jaycees. She was also elected United States Jaycee Congresswoman. She was a lifetime member of the Jaycee Organization and the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Clements had a passion for the arts and was involved in the United Methodist Church choir and directed the children’s choir, and was founder and director of the Tekamah Community Choir. She also directed the choir at the Chatt Center.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Valerie Clements and Corey and Kim Clements, both of Omaha and Richard and Beth Clements of Minneapolis, Minn.; mother Della May Ksiazek, and brother, Gordon Schott, both of Central City, sister, Linda Ksiazek of Chana, Ill., and one granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald, and stepfather, Alonzo Ksiazek.
