Walter Knecht, 92

Services were Monday, May 1 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington for Walter Knecht, 92 who died April 28, 1989 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont. Rev. Dennis Maaske officiated. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Walter Knecht was born July 31, 1896 in rural Arlington. He had lived all his life in the Arlington area, retiring from farming in 1979. He had lived and worked on the present farm since 1918. He had, however, resided for the last two years at Arbor Manor.

He married Matilda L. Sorensen on June 17, 1917 at St. Paul’s parsonage at Arlington. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1975.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Arlington. He is survived by four sisters, Mary Echtenkamp of Wayne; Anna Greunke of Wayne; Elsa Greunke of Fremont and Mrs. Edwin (Louise) Hilgenkamp of Arlington.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Hilgenkamp Knecht; a daughter, Mildred M. Knecht; one sister, Martha Hokamp and three brothers, Henry, Otto and Paul.

Pallbearers were Albert Hokamp, Ronald Hilgenkamp, Curtis Schmidt, Duane Greunke, Larry Echtenkamp and Gilbert Hokamp.

Rosalyn Vogt was organist.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ARLINGTON --- Funeral services for Walter Knecht, 92, of Arlington, will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. He died Friday, April 28, 1989, at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County.

He was born July 31, 1896, at Arlington. He lived all his life in Arlington. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Arlington.

He married Matilda L. Sorensen June 17, 1917, at Arlington. She died May 20, 1975.

Survivors include four sisters, Mary Echtenkamp, Anna Greunke both of Wayne, Elsa Greunke of Fremont and Mrs. Edwin (Louise) Hilgenkamp of Arlington.

The Rev. Dennis Maaske will officiate Monday’s services. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Arlington. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home, Arlington.
