Robert H. Fuhrer, 95

Robert H. Fuhrer, age 95, of Blair, died April 10, 2015, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 16, at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Community Chapel in Blair.

Robert H. Fuhrer was born on January 16, 1920, in South Dakota to Herman and Lucy (Brunmeier) Fuhrer.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Fuhrer, of Blair; children: Linda (Denny) Grover of Mission, Texas, Cletus Fuhrer of Sioux City, Iowa, Deb Fuhrer of Blair, Tammy (Shane) Reeh of Blair; grandchildren: Ryan (Allyson) Marick, Julie Marick, Bobbi (Joe) Anania, Ashley (Tim) Anderson, Drew (Tracy) Jenson, Trever Reeh, Erin Reeh and Ivan Fuhrer; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Ahlers, of Hull, Iowa; brothers: Raymond Fuhrer of Naper, Nebraska, Lyle “Red” Fuhrer of Naper, Nebraska, and Frank (Pat) Fuhrer of Phoenix, Arizona.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ben Fuhrer, Harry Fuhrer and Alan Fuhrer; sister, Lila Guildner; two infant sisters; and son, Craig Fuhrer.

Robert married Lucille Martin in Spencer, Nebraska, on December 19, 1953. They moved in 1956 to Blair, where he worked as a mechanic for Vinton Motors and Sid Dillon Chevrolet until his final retirement at age 90.

He was drafted into WW II in 1941 that sent him overseas with the 636 Tank Destroyer Battalion under the 36th Infantry Division. He fought in many infamous battles, including the Battle of the Bulge.

Prior to the draft he tried out for the Chicago Cubs, which solidified his lifelong love of baseball. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garden. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 1251.

Memorials may be directed, in Robert’s name, to Good Shepherd Lutheran Community or the Blair VFW Post 1251.
