Barbara J. Benne, 66, of Albion, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha following complications from recent surgery.

Barbara Jane Frye was born Aug. 31, 1943, in Omaha to Robert and Patricia (Pearce) Frye. As a child, she lived with her family in the Elk City area. The family later moved to Herman where she continued her education at Herman High School. She married Larry Swanson on Dec. 24, 1958, in Yankton, S.D. They lived in the Oakland area until 1980 when they moved to Ainsworth. In 1991, they moved to Albion. She worked at Casey’s General Store and the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Albion until October of 2008 when she retired due to health reasons. She continued to volunteer at the Good Samaritan Home in Albion as well as the Boone County Food Pantry.

In earlier years, she attended Swaburg Lutheran Church in Uehling. Since moving to Albion, she attended Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry; five children, Stephanie (Mrs. Mark) Hultquist of Oakland; Mitch Swanson of O’Neill; Bruce (and wife, Tina) Benne of Albion; Jeff (and wife, Fran) Benne of Lincoln and Brenda Archibeque of Phoenix, Ariz; her parents, Robert “Bud” and Lillian Frye of Fremont; two brothers, Robert (and wife, Carolyn) Frye of Enid, Okla.; and David (and wife Sarah) Frye of Houston; a sister, Beth (Mrs. Don) Landholm of Cleveland, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Mike Wachdorf of Omaha; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, a son and a sister.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with the Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Visitation will be 2 – 6 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Oakland Cemetery in Oakland.
