Arlington Pilot Killed In Arizona

Air Force Pilot Larry Gaines, of Arlington, Nebraska, died shortly after an emergency crash landing of the airplane he was flying. The accident happened in Arizona on Monday, June 11.

Reports, reaching back to Washington County, state that Pilot Gaines was making low-level bombing runs on maneuvers when his plane caught on fire. Because of the low level he was not able to bail out of the airplane. Instead, he had to ride the plane down to a crash landing. He died shortly after the crash from burns.

Mr. Gaines is married and has two children. Mrs. Gaines and the children are living in Norfolk, Nebraska at this time.

Larry Gaines is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Gaines of rural route Arlington. Larry graduated from Arlington High School.

Funeral services and place of the service had not been announced at the time this paper went to press.
