#1-Published in the Pilot July 16, 1913

Word was received here yesterday of the death of Edward Edgar A. Stewart at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, of tuberculosis of the lungs, on Monday morning. Doc Pierce left on the afternoon train for Chicago to bring the body here for burial, since his parents and two children are buried here. He was born at the old Stewart farm northwest of town, October 4, 1959, and was therefore not yet 54 years of age. He was in the grocery business here for a good many years in the room now occupied by J. N. Peebles but sold out about the time of the failure of his brother. J. H., who was running a hardware store in the corner now occupied by the Home Theater. He was married to Miss Bertha McCormick, daughter of W. McCormick in September, 1882, and leaves an only daughter, Bessie, now Mrs. M. H. LaDouceur, of Omaha. Besides her he leaves three brothers, J. H. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Grant, of Los Angles, Calif., and Mott, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Sam Warrick of this city. He was a nephew of Mrs. J. F. Wiseman, of this city. When he left here he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, also of the Chapter and of the Commandery, but has since failed to keep in good standing in any of them. In a letter to Mrs. Wiseman, written only a few weeks ago, he wrote as follows: “Across the street from where I was working was a Mission, and last fall I attended one of their meetings. I went back the next night with the result that I returned to God’s household, and am only waiting for him to call me home.” The call came even sooner than he expected it, and it will please his many friends to know that he had the comforts of religion in his last long hours upon earth.
