HELEN L. BENTON, 76

Helen L. Benton, 76, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 6, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Helen Louise Beaumont was born July 28, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa, to William C. Beaumont and Lora L. Davis. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo.

On March 7, 1951, she married Daryl Myers in Raton, N.M. The couple had two daughters. Her marriage to Kenneth Benton added two sons to the family.

Mrs. Benton felt her soul and spirit lived in the mountains of Colorado and fondly spoke of time spent in Colorado Springs, Delta, Salida, and Alamosa. She was equally fond of her time in Maine, enjoying the hummingbirds, ocean, fall foliage, family and her church group in Norway, Maine.

Her greatest pride was her family, including her children and their spouses, Rubye LynnDavie of Omaha, and Renee Louise and Tom McWilliams of Blair; Jeffrey John and Cindy Benton of Auburn, Maine, and Matthew Kevin Benton of Topelis, Fla.; grandchildren Lisa Howell (Darrel) Blair; Heather Coon, Fremont; Adam Coon (Stephanie), Scribner; Erin Davie, Sarah Davie, Susan Davie, all of Omaha; Alex Benton, Texas, Ryan Benton, Topelis, Fla., and great-grandchildren, Gracie Coon, Jayden Eckermann, Hunter Howell, Danielle Howell, Hailey Howell, and Sidney Mallory. One step-grandson, Tyler Howell and one step-granddaughter, Nicole Rae Belskis, were no less precious to her than any other.

Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, reading, flower gardening, passing on family stories and shopping - always getting the greatest deal, assessing no trip as complete without the quest for the quintessential pair of black pants that always had to be returned - always. She was a talented cook and no one cleaned or appreciated their home more than she did - a neurosis she passed down successfully to future generations.

She was blessed with many special friends and colleagues over the course of her lifetime, and will be sorely missed by many.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Rerez; and a brother, Wm. C. Beaumont, Jr.

Memorials are suggested to Creighton University Pulmonary Clinic in Omaha or Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
