Harvey Wilbur Knight

Harvey Wilburn Knight, son of Arthur and Emma Styles Knight was born December 14, 1897, on the Knight farm at Irvington, where he grew up to young manhood. He attended the Irvington school and was a member of the Irvington Congregational Church since a small boy.

He served in the Armed Forces during World War I as a sergeant in the Cavalry.

He married Anna J. Witzke, January 14, 1920, at Glenwood, Iowa. Two sons and a daughter were born to this union.

The couple farmed in the Irvington area and Harvey’s love of the farm and farm animals kept them on the farm, even after Harvey was forced to retire, because of ill health in 1974. He passed away suddenly at his home on the farm, February 20, 1976, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 6 days.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth in 1942 and a granddaughter Debra Ann Knight.

Leaving to mourn his passing, his wife, Anna J., daughter Reva Anne and husband Gayle Brodil of Apple Valley, Minnesota, son Keith R. and wife Irene of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska. Two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Beatrice) Westergaard and Mrs. (Vada) William Smith, both of Irvington, Nebraska, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Mr. Knight was a member of the American Legion Post No. 266 of Bennington, Nebraska.

Funeral services were conducted at Northwest Hills United Church of Christ on Monday, February 23, 1976 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. George Tormohlen officiating.

Organist was Mrs. John Weaver. Mr. Sam Lovejoy, vocalist, rendered “I’m Just Going Home,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery with a Military Service. Pallbearers were nephews, Robert Witzke, Howard Hall, Gary Smith, Dan Westergaard, Mike Smith and David Smith. Arrangements by Kremer Funeral Home, Omaha, Nebraska.
