Eric L. Knudsen, 79

Funeral services were Monday, August 27 at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha for Eric L. Knudsen, 79 of Washington, Nebraska who died August 22, 1990. Burial was in the Prairie View Cemetery.

Eric L. Knudsen was born March 20, 1911 at Lincoln, Nebraska. He had lived nearly his entire lifetime in Washington.

He and Emma Stender were married July 24, 1935 at Kountze Memorial Church in Omaha. They farmed some land just west of Washing until 1944 when they bought a trucking business in Washington. It continues today as Knudsen Oil and Feed Company.

He served on the Washington Village Board for 42 years. He was mayor from May, 1949 to November, 1986. He was also a member of the Washington School Board, Washington County School Redistricting Board and the Washington Planning and Zoning Commission.

He was a long time member of the Nebraska-Iowa Milk Carriers’ Association and served on the board of directors. He helped organize the Papio Valley Preservation Association and held the office of secretary for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Ingrid Olsen Knudsen and brothers, Johannes and Arthur.

He is survived by his wife, Emma; a daughter and son-in-law, Marybeth and Loren Cohrs; and three granddaughters, their spouses and their children, Amy and Bob Harper, Kennard; Gwen Bliss, Washington; Joy and Bill Curry, Liberty, Missouri; and Calleen and Conor Harper and Jenny and Kelly Curry.

Haden-Golden Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
