Mrs. Ingrid Kirstine Knudsen, Early Day Washington Resident Died At Blair Hospital June 29

Mrs. Ingrid Kirstine Knudsen was born on June 6, 1883 in Hjorring, Denmark, the daughter of Christian and Maria Olsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denmark. In early 1910 she came to the United States. She was married to Nels Knudsen in 1916.

Mrs. Knudsen served a Postmaster in Washington, Nebraska from 1943 thru 1957 and lived in the Washington area most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nels, two sons, Johannes and Arthur and two brothers, Emil and Aksel Olsen.

She is survived by one son, Eric of Washington, Nebraska, four brothers, Nels Olsen of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Pete Olsen of Washington, Nebraska, Conrad Jensen of Harlan, Iowa, John Jensen of Fremont, Sena (Mrs. John) Rhea of San Francisco, California in addition she is mourned by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and countless other relatives and acquaintances who knew her as a gracious Christian lady and a quiet example of piety and Christian Faith. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1966.

She died Sunday afternoon, June 29th at the Blair Hospital following an illness of several months. She was 92 years and 23 days old.

Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church at 144th & Ida on Tues. afternoon, July 1 at 2 PM with Pastor Albert Engler officiating. Gayleen Neuhaus was the organist and the ladies choir sang, “The Lord is My Shepherd” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”

Pallbearers were Bertel Bertelsen, Jr., Glenn Gottsch, Ernest Mommsen, Wm. C. Stender, Carsen Petersen and Alvin Andersen. Burial was at Prairie View Cemetery with Bendorf Funeral Home in charge.
