OBITUARY

Many hearts were made sad last Friday when they learned of the death of Miss Nellie Blackstone, a young woman about twenty-one years of age, well known and well beloved. She was one of fifteen children born to Mr. and Mrs. Blackstone, of whom twelve are now alive.

She was born in Burt county, Neb., March 22nd, 1878. Ten years ago the family moved to Washington county, about three and a half miles from Blair where they have since resided. Miss Nellie was sick only about a week with measles and pneumonia of the lungs when all that could be done for her was done but could not hold her to this life. About 7:50 Friday morning the angel of death entered the home and bore her sweet spirit home to God. All except Jennie and a brother were sick with the same disease but are rapidly improving. One year ago, the 9th day of March, Miss Nellie united with the first Baptist church, Blair, and was baptized into full fellowship.

She was a young lady of sweet disposition and needed only to be known in order to be loved. She will be missed for many a day in her home, in society and in the church. The funeral took place last Saturday at the house about 4 p.m., a long procession following its last resting place.

Though in life’s prime ‘twas not for her too soon Calmly and peacefully she sank to rest Her sun went down while it was yet but noon To rise and brighter shine among the blest.

She’s gone before yet but a little while, We meet again in yon bright world above, For ever there to dwell beneath the smile Of Jesus and the sunlight of his love.

Pilot, March 22, 1894
