Blair Native Dies Hero in Philippines

Henry David Mark, Son of Ex-Blair Grocer, Posthumously Honored

Henry David Mark, 28, native and childhood resident of Blair, met a hero’s death in the defense of the Philippine Islands December 24, Blairites learned this week as Mark was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for bravery in action.

Mark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Mark, now of 5961 west Olympic boulevard, Los Angeles, has been honored since his death on several national radio programs and in Life magazine.

The youthful hero, son of Abraham Mark and Lena Bernstein Mark, was born in Blair March 6, 1913. His father at that time operated a grocery store on north Fifth street, just south of the present site of the Lundt Oil company’s station.
