Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 21 at Country Bible Church for Marvin Stier who died March 19, 1989. Marvin W. Stier was born in Schuyler, Nebraska on September 14, 1925 to Walter C. and Verna Muehlich Stier.

He graduated from David City High School in David City, Nebraska in May, 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy in June, 1943, serving on the USS Caldwell. He was wounded in a Kamikazee attack and received the purple heart and returned to active duty, being discharged in March, 1946.

He married Irene Humlicek of David City on August 4, 1947. He went to work for Minnegasco in 1946 and retired from the company in February 1987.

He was a member of the Blair Fire Department from November 5, 1952 until September 1, 1975. He was second assistant chief in 1958-1959, first assistant chief 1965-1967; chief in 1968-1969; and was president of the Blair Fire Department from 1963-1964. He also served on the rescue squad from 1969-1970. He was a member of VFW Post 1251 and Legion Post 154 of Blair.

He is survived by his wife Irene; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Diana; Ken and Jeannine; Jim and Marsha; grandchildren Christopher, Tom, Michelle, Julie and Carissa, all of Blair. Father, Walter of David City; sister Naomi Brochtrup and Allyn and niece Sue Kmoch and Stephen of Omaha.

Marvin was preceded in death by his mother, Verna in 1972. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Blair Fire Department.
