L. H. CLOW, 92. DIES AT PIERRE

FORMER BLAIRITE ONCE MANAGED CROWELL LUMBER & GRAIN COMPANY

L. H. Chow, 92, former Blair business man died Sunday, October 25, at the home of his daughter, Iris, in Pierre, South Dakota, it was learned in Blair this week by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Raver. The information was received in a letter from Mr. Raver’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles A. Raver of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a daughter of Mr. Clow.

Born in Wisconsin, November 2, 1843, Mr. Clow came to Blair in about 1885 and served as manager of the Crowell Lumber & Grain Company for several years. Later he managed a farmers co-operative lumber yard, located on the southeast corner of Sixth and Washington streets, where the Blair Collar factory is now located.

He was married twice, two children from the first marriage, Irma and Byron, coming to Blair with him. Irma taught in the city schools. Irma, now Mrs. Charles A. Raver, lives in Edmonton, and Byron’s home is at Missoula, Montana. There are four children from the second marriage who survive Mr. Clow. They are Iris, with whom he had made his home since the death of his wife five years ago, Mrs. Harold Hardy of North Dakota, Dudley and Doris of California.

Mr. Clow was an active member of the Blair Masonic lodge until 1931, when he transferred his membership to the Pierre lodge.

L. H. Clow, a former Blair citizen, died at the home of his daughter, Iris, in Pierre, S. D. on October 25. Had he lived until November 2nd, he would have reached the age of 93 years.

Mr. Clow was for a number of years manager of the Crowell Lumber and Grain Co., at this place and later managed a Grange lumber yard on the block where the collar factory now stands. His residence here dates back to 1885.

He was married twice. Two children by the first marriage were Irma and Byron. Both were students in the Blair schools. Irma married C. A. Raver, a brother of Anna and Henry Raver, and now lives in Edmonton, Alta, Canada, where C.A. is a practicing dentist. Byron lives in Missoula, Montana.

Four children were from the second marriage, Inis, with whom he made his home since the death of his wife, four years ago; Louise, Mrs. Harold Hardy, of North Dakota and Dudley and Doris of California.

While residing here he joined the Masonic order and continued to keep his dues paid until 1931 when he asked for a demit and joined the lodge at Pierre, S.D.
