STANLEY STIREK, 87

Former Fort Calhoun resident Stanley Stirek, 87, of Omaha, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007 in Omaha. Private family services will be Saturday, Jan. 13. Interment will be in Blair’s Holy Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Friday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Stanley Stirek was born April 3, 1919 at home in Florence to John and Anna (Cuda) Stirek. At this time, the Florence area, on the northernmost edge of Omaha, was almost entirely farm land. He spent all of his life on farms in the Omaha area.

On May 8, 1943 he married Rose Zavorka. The couple farmed in Plattsmouth, Elkhorn, and then bought the family farms between Blair and Fort Calhoun. They were involved in dairy farming throughout the years. Many top-yielding dairy cattle came from the operation that Mr. and Mrs. Stirek developed.

Mr. Stirek served on the board of Sokol Hall, where they enjoyed many nights of dancing to polkas and waltzes.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Larry Suverkrubbe of Morgan Hill, Calif.; sons and daughter-in-law, Fred and Lynn Stirek of Blair and Dave Stirek of Mission, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie Benak of Omaha; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, who died on Thanksgiving of 2006; a brother, Louie; and sisters, Emma and Helen.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Blair and Fort Calhoun volunteer fire and rescue departments.
