Services were Wednesday, August 21 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Omaha for E. L. (Lew) Stokes, 64. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

He was a chief deputy of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department; was a former deputy chief of the Omaha Police Division; and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steve.

He is survived by his wife, Dee; daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and John Bintner and Susan and Dennis Binder; a daughter, Patricia Stokes; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Perly Schoville; Kriss and Tom Shaffer; Denise and Bob Manners; Valerie and Kirk Wiles; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Dinah Stokes of Encinitas, California; David and Rita Stokes, Blair; grandchildren, Adam, Scott, Lenette, Michaela, Sasha, Leah, Heath, Chad, Travis, Rachael, Sarah, Joshua, Jacob, Janna and Krik; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may go to St. Lukes Lutheran Church.
