Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday, at First Methodist Church, with Military Graveside Services held in the Blair Cemetery for James Stokes, age 74 of Blair who died at Memorial Community Hospital May 22, 1994.

James Clayton Stokes was born May 23, 1919 at Herman, Nebraska to J.P. and Maude Arnold Stokes. He attended the Hill Creek School and Herman High School.

He worked in Fremont prior to entering the Army Air Corp in 1942.

On February 6, 1946 he married Jean Aronson in Fremont. They lived in Council Bluffs, prior to moving to Blair in 1952.

He worked for Skelly Oil Station and later operated the DX Station until going to work for Vinton Motor where he was the parts department manager. In 1980 he worked for the Riverland Recreation, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Blair Fire Department from 1959 to 1970 and was a charter member of the Rescue Squad, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Shirley and Lester and two sisters, Marjorie Katt and Luella Rolfs.

Surviving him is his wife, Jean; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jean and Mitchell Rahlfs, Blair; Kay and William Mosher, Sacramento, California; and Diane and James Carson, Kennard; five grandchildren, Tom Rahlfs, Beth Rahlfs, Melanie Moser, Travey Carson and Brad Carson; two sisters Mardell (Mrs. Harland) Wulf, Blair and Laura Petersen, Herman; two brothers, Earl Stokes, Blair and Jay Stokes, Fremont.

Memorials may go to Cancer Fund or Blair Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
