JEAN E. STOKES, 83

Jean E. Stokes, 83 of Blair, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, Feb. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Jean Elizabeth Aronson was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Omaha to Clayton and Mary Aronson. She was a 1942 graduate of Blair High School, where she was Prom Queen her senior year.

On February 6, 1946, she married James C. Stokes at the Fremont Methodist Parsonage with Doris and Earl Stokes as their attendants.

Jean and James Stokes spent their married life around Blair. Mrs. Stokes retired from the Washington County Bank.

She was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Wednesday Circle group. She was a lifelong member of two bridge groups. She also was a member of the Blair Fire Department Auxiliary.

She devoted her time to raising her family, bridge groups, Saturday’s lunch group, knitting and crocheting. Prior to her illness, she traveled to California every year to visit her daughter and her family.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jean and Mitchell Rahlfs of Blair; Kay and William Mosher, Elk Grove, Calif.; and Diane Peterson, also of Blair; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gerriann Brennfoerder and Mary Margaret Sorensen, both of South Sioux City; and her longtime friend, Joe McManigal of Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; sister, Shirley Reynolds; and stepfather, Gerald Lemon.

Memorials are suggested to First Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Services 10:30 am Tuesday, First United Methodist Church. Burial Blair Cemetery. Visitation will begin 3 pm Monday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.
