MRS. JAY STOKES DIED HERE MONDAY

Mrs. Jay P. Stokes, long-time resident of Blair, died at Community Memorial Hospital Monday, November 18th. Mrs. Stokes was 86 years old.

Maude May Stokes was born at Vacoma, southwest of Herman October 14, 1882. She grew up in that vicinity and spent virtually her entire life in the Vacoma area and at Blair.

With her husband, Jay P. Stokes, the couple farmed in the Herman area for many years, later moving to Blair to live in retirement. The Stokes lived at 672 North 16th street in Blair.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by her husband, Jay, and by nine children, four daughters and five sons.

The daughters are Mrs. Albert Petersen (Laura) of Herman; Mrs. Velmar Katt (Margery) of Arlington; Mrs. Ray Rahlfs (Luella) of Valley, Nebr.; and Mrs. Harlan Wulf (Mardelle) of Blair.

The five sons are Jay Stokes Jr. and Lester Stokes, of Omaha; James and Earl Stokes of blair and Shirley Stojesk of Tucson, Arizona.

There are 37 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Blair. The Rev. Richard Atherton is conducting the service. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home is being made in the Herman cemetery.

The casket bearers are all grandsons. They are Philip Katt, Clifford Petersen, Michael Rahlfs, Donald Kuhr, and Terry and Jerry Stokes.
