Meta Fern Matzen, 99

Funeral services for Meta Fern Matzen, age 99, of Blair will be held Friday May 8 at First United Methodist Church in Blair at 10 a.m. Burial will follow services in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday at Campbell Aman Funeral Home beginning at 2 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Matzen died May 4, 2015 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Meta F. Matzen was born on January 31, 1916, in rural Herman, Nebraska, to Earl C. and Emma (Anderson) Thompson. She was raised in rural Washington County in the Spiker area, and attended Washington County Country Schools. At the age of 21 she was united in marriage to Herman A. Matzen. To this union five sons were born.

Meta loved gardening and working in her yard. She was a very loving and strong mother and grandmother who was always devoted to her family.

She is survived by her children Duane (Pauline) Matzen of Fort Calhoun, Keith (Kathy) Matzen of Blair, and Vern (Ken) Matzen of Port Orchard, Washington, 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, sons Richard and Larry Gene, two sisters and three brothers.
