Mr. Koenig Dies at 74

BLAIRITE RETIRED FARMER, DIED FRIDAY; WAS FATHER OF 14 CHILDREN

Charles Koenig, 74, retired Pleasant View farmer and resident of Washington county more than half a century, died at his home, 407 West Grant St., Friday following a lengthy illness. He and Mrs. Koenig had lived in Blair about five years.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bendorf Funeral Home, the Rev. Sidney L. McCaig of First Methodist church officiating, and burial was in Blair cemetery.

Mr. Koenig was born Apr. 12, 1872, at Blankenhein, Germany. When only 17 years old, he came to America, staying first in New York, then moving to Chicago. He came to Omaha in 1894.

He and Miss Caroline Benck of Fort Calhoun were married Jan. 12, 1895, since which time they had made Washington county their home. Mr. and Mrs. Koenig the parents of 14 children, ten of whom survive.

The Koenigs lived for many years in the Pleasant View neighborhood before moving into Blair.

Surviving Mr. Koenig are his wife, Caroline; two sons, Walter Koenig of Blair and John Koenig, in the navy and eight daughters, Mrs. Caroline Paustion of Bloomfield, Mrs. Emma Weber of Herman, Miss Edith Koenig of Omaha, Mrs. Hilda Specht of Syracuse, Mrs. Freda Davis of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Marie Kock of Gretna, Miss Laura Koenig of Hot Springs, S.D. and Miss Margaret Koenig of San Francisco. Other survivors include a brother, Paul Koenig of Omaha, two sisters living in Germany, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Charles Koenig was born April 12, 1872 in Blanenhein, Germany, and passed away August 16, 1946 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 4 days.

He came to America at the age of 17, spending the first years in this country in New York and Chicago. He came to Omaha, Nebraska in 1894.

On January 12, 1895 Mr. Koenig was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Benck of Ft. Calhoun. To this union fourteen children were born. The couple has lived in Washington County since their marriage, most of the time on the farm home in the Pleasant View community. They moved to Blair about five years ago where they were living at the time of Mr. Koenig’s death.

Surviving, besides his wife, are eight daughters: Caroline Paultian, Bloomfield; Emma Weber, Herman; Edith, Omaha; Hilda Specst, Syracuse; Freda Davis, Santiago; Marie Kock, Gretna; Laura, Hot Springs, South Dakota; Margaret, San Francisco. Two sons: Walter of Blair and John of the U.S. Navy. A brother Paul of Omaha, two sisters in Germany, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
