Funeral Services For Ray Koerber Were Held Today

Funeral services for Nebraska Safety Patrolman Raymond Koerber were held today at Nebraska City. Koerber, who was stationed at Blair for a number of years as a patrolman, made many close friends here. He lost his life late Monday afternoon in a traffic accident on Highway 73, near the Plattsmouth, Nebraska cutoff.

Koerber was pursuing a speeder at the time of the crash. As he came over a hill, an oncoming driver made a left hand turn in front of his vehicle. Koerber’s patrol car spun out of control as he attempted to avoid a head-on collision, and he crashed into an oncoming truck. He was killed outright.

Patrolman Koerber was a native of St. Edward, Nebraska and had been a member of the Nebraska Safety Patrol for many years. He was 36 years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, and five children: Candice, Mary, Beckie, Kent and Carrie.

He was transferred from Blair to Nebraska City in June, 1953. Koerber was known here for his kind and courteous manner, yet stern and fair application of the law to the last detail. He arrested both friend and stranger without discrimination, yet never without due cause. Even many of those whom he had arrested, continued to consider him their personal friend because of the manner in which he conducted his work.

Several persons from Blair are in Nebraska City today to attend the services.

Note: Since the actual death date was not given, the news article date was used.
