Thelma K. Kolb, 89

Thelma K. Kolb, 89, of Blair, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair.

Thelma Kristine Hansen was born April 9, 1919, in Elba to Conrad C. and Meda (Bollerup) Hansen. She was always proud to say that she was 100 percent Dane. She graduated from Elba High School and attended Dana College in Blair, where she met her future husband, David Kolb of Elk Horn, Iowa.

After the beginning of World War II, David enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. Thelma left school and moved to Texas, where she married David while he was stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. After the war ended, they moved back to the Kolb farm near Elk Horn, where they lived and farmed with David’s father. That arrangement continued through 1952, when they sold the farm and the couple and their son moved to Oakland, Iowa.

While in Oakland, Mr. and Mrs. Kolb were very involved in their church and Eastern Star. Mrs. Kolb was employed for several years as a bank teller. Later, she was the secretary to the East Pottawattamie County Extension director for many years. The Kolbs lived and worked in Oakland until Mr. Kolb was transferred by Northern Natural Gas to Omaha in 1967. After the move to Omaha, Mrs. Kolb was employed as a clerical worker in the District 66 Schools administrative offices.

The Kolbs lived happily in Omaha until Mr. Kolb’s death in 1982. The couple was active in the Episcopal Church. Mrs. Kolb enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, Nebraska football (she was a real ‘Go Big Red’ fan), walking and volunteering at the church. Shortly after the death of her husband, Mrs. Kolb made the decision to move to Blair.

In Blair, she was active in the Monday Afternoon Club, We Care and Share, PEO Chapter EQ and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Janice Kolb; grandchildren and their spouses, Kristi and Zac Triemert and Scott and Teresa Kolb; and great-grandson, Liam Triemert; brother, Conrad Hansen Jr. and wife, Marge, of El Cajon, Calif.; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an older brother, Harley Hansen; and younger sister, Mary Jane Morehouse.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
