Marcile Kolterman, 84

Marcile Kolterman, 84, of Omaha, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at Risen Son Nursing Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Plans for a Celebration of Life service will be announced by the family at a later date.

Marcile Kolterman was born November 23, 1921, in Seneca, Kan., to Emmet and Greta F. (Thomas) Prater. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1939. She married Herb Kolterman in 1941. Over the years, they lived in Lincoln, Blair and Omaha.

Along with being a homemaker, Mrs. Kolterman taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, was a member of and also held all offices of the Monday Afternoon Club, Women’s Fellowship and Harmony Extension Club. She was a charter member of the Federated Club, PTA; she organized Cancer Crusade and was county chair for three years, served 10 years on the library board and held all offices and instigated the new Children’s department while she was the chair. She was a member of the Omaha Weavers and Spinners Guild, serving as president for three years; she was also a member of the Lincoln Weavers Guild, Midwest Heirloom club, Omaha Writer’s Club and Nebraska Writer’s Club. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, 4-H leader, was a board member of Jobs Daughters and helped with elementary reading programs. She taught weaving, presented programs and demonstrated weaving in Burt County, Omaha, Ralston, Arlington and Blair schools as well as presented and demonstrated at art shows in Omaha, Fremont and Tekamah. She also gave 25 programs on USSR trips and helped organize hospital auxiliaries and volunteered at dinners and rummage sales.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Kristin and Dennis Kuhr of Peachtree, Ga., Karen and Robert Heintzen of Lawrence, Kan.; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Janie Kolterman of Omaha, Joel and Jari Kolterman of Littleton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb, in 1977.

Cutler-O’Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs was in charge of arrangements.
