Norma J. Stone, 75 of Blair, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair. She had battled a number of major and minor strokes starting in December 2002.

Services were Monday, Nov. 23 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be at a later date at the Blair Cemetery.

Norma Jean Nelson was born on Oct. 27, 1934 on the family farm outside of Albion, to William “Bud’ and Edith Nelson.

She attended District 19 and Albion High School. After graduation, she taught for two years in a country school near Albion. She later enrolled at Dana College where she met and fell in love with Larrie Stone. They were married on June 15, 1956 at South Branch Church in rural Albion.

The couple moved to Blair in 1962 when Larrie started his 37-year teaching career at Dana College.

Mrs. Stone spent most of her middle years raising three children. After the children were grown, she started a small shop where she sold art supplies and handcrafted items. This adventure grew into a picture-framing business that included art classes. Arthritis in her hands brought this business to an end, and she “retired” to become an independent distributor for Sunrider products. Her greatest joy was helping other people. She liked to play bridge, and was a member of two wonderful clubs.

She is survived by her husband, Larrie; three children and their spouses, Steven and Sandy Stone of Blair, David and Brenda Stone of Omaha, and Sherrie and David Gordon of St. Louis, Mo.; her grandchildren, Andy, Tyler and Nikki Stone; Chris, Tim and John Gordon; Chris and Jason Roberts; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson of Albion, and her four children and their families.

Norma was preceded in death by an older brother Roger.

Memorials may be given to the Dana College Scholarship Fund or to the Dana College Danish Archives.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
