Corporal Moore was a member of Headquarters, Kobe Base, Far East Command. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on August 2, 1950.

Army Captain says Ex-Blair Boy Died In A Mountain Pass

Pfc. LeRoy Lyle (Buck) Moore, 21, former Blairite, died in action in a mountain pass five miles southwest of Hamon, Korea.

That was the word received this week at Pender by the youth’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Moore of Pender, who lived in Blair until recently.

Capt. John Coyle, who was with young Moore at the time of his death, wrote the parents, giving details. He added that Moore was buried in a U.S. Army cemetery at Mason, Korea.

Pfc. More died Aug. 2. He had attended school in Blair, but was graduated from Pender High School in 1946. He enlisted Aug. 21, 1946, and again Aug. 21, 1948.

Survivors besides his parents are three sisters, Mrs. Jarosz Arnold (Virginia) of Omaha, Mrs. William Stoner, Jr., (Barbara, of Pender and Miss Wilma Moore of Pender. Also surviving are his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Moore of Blair, and a number of uncles, nephews and nieces.

To Bury Moore In Korea

Information coming from captain John Coyle, with the U.S. forces in Korea regarding Leroy Lyle Moore, former Blair man, has revealed the manner of his death and burial place in Korea.

Leroy Lyle Moore, 21, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Moore, of Pender but had lived in Blair and was well known here. He was born December 5th, 1928.

He was a graduate of the Pender, Nebraska High school in 1946 but had attended Blair High during his school years. He had enlisted in the armed forces but a few months after graduating and has served as a member of the armed forces since that time.

His death came on August 2 at approximately 9:45 a.m., while engaged in fighting at a pass in the hills five miles southwest of Haman, Korea. He was buried in an army cemetery at Mason, Korea, pending completion of the war and ultimate return to the United States.

Pfc. Moore, Korean War Victim, is Buried Here

A former Blair boy who lost his life in the war in Korea was brought home this week for burial.

LeRoy Moore, better known here as “Buck” Moore, was first declared missing in action last August, and later was reported killed in action in a message received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Moore, who now reside at Pender.

The body of young Moore, who was an infantryman, is one of many now being brought home.

The Campbell Mortuary received he body. Funeral services were held at Pender Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church. The body then was brought to Blair Cemetery for interment, and the Blair VFW color guard and firing squad officiated in a final salute.
