Services For Pvt. Nichelson Will Be Saturday

Private 1st Class Rickey R. Nichelson, U.S.M.C. passed away on January 6, 1974, aboard the Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.

He was born July 11, 1953, at Lincoln, Nebr., and attended grade school at Lincoln, Nebraska. His family moved to Blair, Nebraska, in January 1969, where he attended high school.

He was active in wrestling and football and graduated in May of 1971. He then attended Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska, for one year and then enlisted in the Marine Corps January 3, 1973. He graduated from recruiting training and court recorder school before leaving for Japan in August of 1973.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Nichelson, brother Randy, sisters, Claudia, Cathleen, Crystal, all of R.R. 2, Blair, Nebraska. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Claude V. Nichelson of Valparaiso, Nebr., preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harris, Baltimore, Maryland.

Pvt. Nichelson’s remains will be in state at the Bendorf Funeral Home. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 17th & Colfax St., Blair, Nebr. at 1:30 January 19th. Interment will be at the Blair Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be: Jim McKee, Phil Steyer, Bill Vahle, Roger Clements, Jeff Richards, John Grabow, Stuart Jacobs and Virgil Feer. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Rick Sully, Richard Justin, Mike Chamberlin and Pfc. Tom Lanouette.

Rick Nichelson Died While In Service In Japan

Rick Nichelson, 20 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Nichelson of Blair, died while in the service in Japan. Rick Nichelson was with the United States Marine Corp. Full details of the death are still not available except that Nichelson was found dead in his bed.

Pvt. 1st Class Rick Nichelson was born on July 11, 1953, at Lincoln, Nebraska. He had entered the Marine Corp on January 6 1973, and had been in Japan since August. He was stationed at the Marine Corp Air Station, Iwakuna, Japan.

Services are pending, at this time, at the Bendorf Funeral Home in Blair. It is not known just when the body and escort will arrive from Japan.

Rick Nichelson graduated from Blair High School in May of 1971 and was active in sports. He attended Wayne state College prior to entering the Marine Corp.

Rick is survived by his mother and father, one brother and three sisters. The brother is Randy Nichelson. The sisters are Claudia, Cathy and Crystal.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Claude V. Nichelson of Valparaiso, Nebraska.

The funeral will be held at the First Methodist Church, in Blair, with interment at the Blair Cemetery.
