Verna D. (Wulf) Stork, 83 of Blair, died June 12, 2000 at Good Shepherd Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16. Visitation will begin on Thursday, June 15 at 5 p.m.

Verna D. Stork was born on October 30, 1916, at the farm home of her parents, Hans and Dora (Reeh) Wulf. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Orum on September 1, 1917 and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Orum on September 1, 1929. She attended the Lincoln Country School and Blair High School.

She married Everett Stork on March 15, 1936. They had four children.

Verna Stork was a homemaker and an active volunteer in her church and community. She was a member and served as the president for the merimyx Extension Club, Washington county Extension Clubs, St. Paul’s Ladies’ Aid, First Lutheran Church Women, Esther Circle, Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary, and Washington Coiunty Unit of the American Cancer Society. She also served as Memorial Chairman of the Cancer Group.

She organized the Busy Fingers 4-H Club and served as a 4-H leader.

She is survived by her husband, children and spouses. They include Ronald and Judy Stork; Tom and Janice Lippincott; and Susan and Jim Bensen, all of Blair; and Roger and Donna Stork of Southern Pines, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Mark Lippincott, Julene Warren, Scott Stork and Lance Claussen, all of Blair; Shari McCain of Fremont; Keri Claussen of New York City; Andrea Pavell of Texas; Travis Stork of Virginia; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harlan and Robert Wulf.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Home, the Washington County Unit of the American Cancer Society, or First Lutheran Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Verna Stork Dies at Age of 83 by Tom Shaw World-Herald staff Writer

After being diagnosed more than 20 years ago with colon cancer, Verna Wulf Stork helped to educate others in cancer prevention and detection.

Stork survived the cancer and volunteered her time helping others., said her daughter Janice Lippincott of Blair.

Stork died Monday at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair of unknown causes. She was 83.

Stork was born Oct. 30, 1916, at the family farm west of Blair.

In 1977, she learned of her cancer and then gave much of herself to education efforts. In 1994, she was given the Public Education Lifesaver Award by the American Cancer Society.

Stork was memorial chairwoman for the Washington County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

Stork also was active at the First Lutheran Church of Blair.

“She was a wonderful mother,” Lippincott said. “She cared so much about her family. They were No. 1 in her life.”

Stork is also survived by her husband of 64 years, Everett; two sons, Ronald Stork of Blair and Roger Stork of Southern Pines, N.C.; daughter Bensen of Blair; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church of Blair. Burial will be in Blair Cemetery.
