Vivian Ione Edmondson, 96

Vivian Ione Edmondson of Fremont, NE, formerly of Arlington, NE, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Nye Legacy in Fremont at the age of 96.

Vivian was born September 9, 1918, in Clearwater, NE, to Homer and Goldie (Mitchell) McClellan. She graduated in 1935 as valedictorian of her class at Clearwater High School. She moved with her family to Arlington in 1936. She took classes at Midland College and Metro Tech and taught school for 3 years. Vivian married Howard Edmondson on November 6, 1937, in Red Oak, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1993. Vivian was employed in the office at Marshall Nurseries for 44 years.

Vivian was a charter member and served many years on the Arlington Board of Directorsfor the Six Plex and the Eagle Housing. She also served 47 years on the Library Board. She was an active member of the Arlington Community Church, where she taught Sunday school, served on many committees, and was a member of CCW. Vivian was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. She loved her many years of volunteering at Arbor Manor Nursing Home, where with the help of friends, led a story hour for the residents.

She is survived by son, Galen, and wife, Corinne Edmondson, of Lombard, IL; daughters, Jeanne and husband, Dennis Beavers, of Omaha, NE, and Joanne and husband, David Hilgenkamp, of Arlington; sister, Melba Lea Cullen of California; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 2 grandchildren, Jennifer and Catherine.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Nye Legacy, from the administration to the nurses, who so lovingly and respectfully cared for Vivian. Words cannot adequately express our thanks to Pathways to Compassion Hospice, who provided her with expert care and utmost dignity during the final chapter of her life. Also, our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Sellon, for his many years of wonderful medical care.

A memorial service will be 10 AM, Saturday, June 6th, at the Arlington Community Church, U.C.C. in Arlington. The Rev. Penny Greer will officiate. Memorial visitation will be from 1 PM to 8 PM Friday, June 5th, with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington and on Saturday at church 1 hour prior to service. Burial will be at the Arlington Cemetery near Arlington.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund they have selected for senior services at Nye Legacy or to the Arlington Community Church.
