Simon L. Kosmicki, 84

Simon L. Kosmicki, 84, died Dec. 24, 2008, in Omaha, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were Dec. 29, at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home with interment at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Simon Lawrence Kosmicki was born Feb. 12, 1924, at the family farm near Loup City to Alexander and Rosa (Zoucha) Kosmicki. On Feb. 17, 1924, he was baptized at St. Josaphats Catholic Church in Loup City.

After farming in the Loup City area, he moved to Omaha. He worked at the Purina Feed Mill and O’Brien Sausage in Bellevue, and also at Add A Shower Door in Omaha.

On April 15, 1961, he married Ethel Snow Knudsen in Omaha, where they spent their entire married life. They loved polka dancing and listening to polka music. The last song played at Mr. Kosmicki’s funeral was “Beer Barrel Polka”.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 48 years, Ethel; their children, Lawrence “Sonny” and Nondie Knudsen of Arlington and Linda and Ron Hoffman of Herman; son-in-law, Ralph Devney, and wife, Barb, also of Herman; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Janette Novakowski of St. Paul; also, five children from a previous marriage: Connie, Linda, Rebecca, Bernadette and Kenneth; many other relatives, friends and good neighbors.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vernell Devney.

Survived by loving wife, Ethel (Snow) Kosmicki, of Omaha, NE; son, Lawrence “Sonny” Knudsen and wife Nondie, of Arlington, NE; daughter, Linda Hoffman and husband Ron, of Herman, NE; son-in-law, Ralph Devney and wife Barb, of Herman, NE; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandchild; sister, Janette Novakowski; 5 children from a previous marriage, Connie, Linda, Rebecca, Bernadette and Kenneth.

FUNERAL SERVICE Monday 11 am December 29, 2008 at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home. VISITATION Sunday 3-8 pm with family greeting friends from 5-7 pm and Rosary at 7pm held at the Funeral Home. Interment at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials to family.
