Daniel Sapp Is Buried At Blair

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Millard for Cpl. Daniel Dean Sapp, 23, who died December 14, 1982, at Camp Pendleton, California.

The Rev. James R. Kautz conducted the services. Burial was in Blair Cemetery.

Cpl. Sapp died about 10 p.m. CST during a training exercise at Camp Pendleton when a tank in which he was riding apparently slid about 45 feet down a ravine and overturned, pinning him. A fellow Marine, Daniel F. Berger of Libertyville, Illinois, also died in the accident. Two other crew members were not seriously injured.

Daniel Dean Sapp was born August 8, 1959, at Topeka, Kansas, to Harold Dean and Eleanora Wollenberg Sapp. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Sapp, of Omaha; three sisters, Sherilyn Swaney, Alaska; Debra Belton, San Diego, California; two stepbrothers, Chris Klotz, Steven Klotz; two stepsisters, Audrey Klotz and Karl Sapp, all of Omaha; and his grandmother, Sophia Wollenbeg, of Hollenberg, Kansas.

Pallbearers were Gy Sgt. B. W. Brown, SSgt. S. A. Michael, SSgt. R. J. Newman, Sgt. C. A. Dominquez, Sgt. G. Stover and Sgt. M. C. Ptacek.

Honorary pallbearers were Richard Barnard, Berger Benson, Gary Drake, Michael Drake, Dan Edwards, Bob Moyer, Wayne Richards, Jack Sapp, Jim Sapp, John Sapp, Lee Allen Sapp and Kevin Liegenbein.

Sharon Anderson was organist. Jan Moore sang.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
