Albert Hokamp, 93, of Arlington, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services were Thursday, Jan. 6, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery with military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington.

Albert Hokamp was born March 2, 1917, in rural Arlington to August and Martha (Knecht) Hokamp. He grew up in rural Arlington and, after school, he worked on the family farm and did odd jobs for $1 a day.

He then worked at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. in Baltimore, Md., for four and a half years, where he made airplane parts.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, from June 22, 1945, to July 29, 1946, and served in the Asiatic Pacific theater. After the war, he returned to Arlington where he farmed. He moved into Arlington from the family farm in 1979 and had been a resident at Arbor Manor in Fremont since August of 2004.

On Nov. 7, 1948, he married Darlene E. Laaker at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Hokamp was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he had held all the church offices. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and served on the state board for four years, and the Zone 4 Board for two years. He served for two years on the St. Paul's Cemetery Board; was on the Board of Regents at Concordia College at Seward; and was a former member of V.F.W. Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington. He was a volunteer at the American Red Cross bloodmobile and had received his own eight-gallon pin for donations.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Diane Hokamp of Fremont and Randy and Judy Hokamp of Arlington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Meta Breithaupt and Norma and Elmer Katt of Herman; brother-in-law and spouse, Alvin and Lorraine Gnuse of Carpenteria, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, in August of 1986; two brothers, Martin and Gilbert Hokamp; sisters, Lora Gieselmann and Esther Gieselmann; and sister-in-law, Esther Hokamp.

Memorials are suggested to the Albert and Darlene Hokamp Scholarship Endowment Fund at Concordia College, or the building fund at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
