Sgt. Clyde E. Williamson, well-known in Blair, lost his life late Saturday evening when the car in which he was riding crashed in the rear of an oil transport truck owned by the Tyson-Long firm, of Herman. The accident occurred two and one-half miles north of Blair near the Cuming City School.

Williamson was riding with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Williamson, of Omaha, and the trio was enroute to Tekamah to visit relatives. They had been visiting Williamson’s wife, the former Lucille McComb, and her parents, Councilman and Mrs. Charles McComb, of Blair. Ray Williamson received a severe gash on his leg and Mrs. Williamson suffered a broken collar bone and other injuries.

The oil transport was driven by Marvin Bennett, of Omaha, who had been a driver for the concern for a number of years.

According to officials of the Tyson-Long Company, Bennett reported that he was slowing down to remove his chains and the Williamson car, catching up from behind, apparently didn’t notice his slackening of pace until it was too late to avoid an accident. The Williamson car struck the transport on the left rear corner, squarely at the door of the coupe, crushing the body in on the deceased man and causing his death.

Road conditions at the time of the accident were very treacherous, the pavement being covered with a glare of ice which made quick stopping very difficult.

Sgt. Clyde Ernest Williamson, son of James Brady and Ella Williamson, was born at Tekamah, Nebraska, April 19, 1908, and died December 2, 1944, at the age of 36 years, 7 months, and 13 days. He spent his early life in and around Tekamah.

On January 20, 1928, he was untied in marriage with Lucille McComb at Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1936, they moved to Peoria, Illinois, where he was employed with the Caterpillar Tractor Company. In July, 1943, he was inducted into the army and at the time of his death was attending Tractor School at Fort Crook, Nebraska.

He was a member of a family of seven children. His mother, a sister and a brother preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Lucille, his father, J. Brady Williamson of Tekamah, Ray Williamson of Omaha, Mrs. Gladys Rice and Lloyd Williamson of Tekamah, and Cpl. Edgar Williamson in France, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for the deceased were held on Tuesday, December 5th, at the Baptist Church in Blair with Campbell Mortuary in charge. Rev. D. D. Kennedy officiated.

The members of the Stanley E. Hain Post paid tribute to Williamson, inasmuch as he was a member of the armed forces, by giving a salute and sounding taps at the grave and a cor??? Of service men from ??? also participated in the services.
