Gerald R. Wright Died May 1st at San Diego

Petty Officer Gerald R. Wright, 35, U.S. Navy, died on May 1 at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, Calif., as a result of cancer of the esophagus. Burial rites were held on May 6 at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland Oregon. Among those attending were his father, Henry B. Wright of Blair.

Surviving in addition to the father are a half brother, Henry G. Wright of Blair; mother, Mrs. Arthur W. Olson of Battle Ground, Washington; two daughters, Roxanne, 14, Misty, 5 and a son, Thomas, 7, all residing on the west coast.

Gerry, a careen Navy man who had planned to retire in May, 1975, with 20 years of service, made his home in Blair for a time while attending Blair High School during the mid 1950’s. He served on the nuclear aircraft carrier, Enterprise, and other ships of the Pacific fleet, spending any months in active duty in the Viet Nam area. More recently he had been an instructor at the Naval base in San Diego. He had been ill for about 6 weeks prior to his death, most of which time he was a patient at the Naval hospital in San Diego.
