Corporal Young was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion , 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was seriously wounded by the enemy near Masogu-ri, South Korea on May 17, 1951 and returned to duty on May 28, 1951. He died of other causes near San-Yang-ni, Korea on July 31, 1951. Corporal Young was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations service Medal, the National defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
