GERALD R. STORJOHN, 77 (veteran)

Herman native Gerald R. Storjohn, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun, with a private interment to follow. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Gerald Richard Storjohn was born Aug. 8, 1928 in Herman to Albert and Byreene (Ott) Storjohn. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Herman. He attended Glendale Grade School and graduated from Herman High School in 1946. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for a brief time.

While he was growing up in Herman, he worked with his father on the dairy farm. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, with a rank of Private First Class. After his return from the service, he continued to work on the dairy farm again.

On Aug. 26, 1957, he married Geraldine Schneider. They lived briefly in Fremont before moving to Omaha in 1957, where he lived until his death.

Mr. Storjohn worked for Bellaire Nursery in Bennington for 50 years as a nursery foreman. He was working for the nursery up until his surgery in August.

For many years, he also delivered the Sunday World-Herald with his father-in-law, Peter Schneider. They would travel 95 miles each week to deliver the paper.

Mr. Storjohn was a member of VFW Post No. 2508 in Omaha.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, and daughter, Marlene Ellen, both of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Duane Gage of Fort Calhoun; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Dorothy Storjohn of Grand Island and Leon and Vonda Storjohn of Twin Falls, Idaho; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet Nelson of Portland, Ore., and Garnet and Edgar Rinaker of Fremont; many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-laws, and friends. He was very close to his brother-in-law, Robert Schneider of Fort Calhoun.
