Glen A. Stottler, 72, of Bloomfield, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, following a lengthy illness Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Private burial of his cremains will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield.

Glen A. Stottler was born Dec. 17, 1936 to Leo and Thelma (Smith) Stottler. He was baptized in the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Benson, Minn.

He graduated from Benson High School in 1956.

On April 19, 1958, he married Margaret Sundhelm at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, Minn. and they were blessed with 51 years of marriage and two sons, Mark and Kory.

Mr. Stottler started in the telephone business working for A.M. Lips Construction Co. of Faribault, Minn., starting in 1957, where he built telephone lines in Kansas, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri. In 1961, he started working for Capitol Telephone Co. in Hickman, where the family resided for nine years. He went to work for Unitel Telephone Co. in 1969, which later changed to Great Plains Communications in Blair. He was employed in Blair for five years before transferring to Bloomfield in 1974 to be district manager of Great Plains Communications. He enjoyed his job, through which he and his wife were able to travel to Texas, California, Las Vegas, Georgia, New Orleans, and Hawaii. He retired on Dec. 31, 1999.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing until his health began to fail. He still enjoyed traveling, loading up his oxygen supplies and traveling to Alabama, Colorado and Minnesota until this last year.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bloomfield, and was a member of the Masonic organization; Lewis and Clark Shrine Club; and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was involved in Rolling Hills Country Club as a board member and was past president of the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marge; sons, and daughters-in-law, Mark and Brenda Stottler of Tekamah; Kory and Lori of Greenville, Ala.; six grandchildren, Erin (Jeff) Eickhoff of Albion; Adam Stottler of Alma; Courtney and Katheryn Stottler of Vermillion, S. D.; Thawney and Thaddeys Stottler of Yankton, S.D.; five step-grandchildren, Brandi (Jeremy) Johnson, Ashley (Nathan) Adams, Amy (doug) Halford, all of Greenville, Ala.; Dustin and Jake Stuelke of Tekamah; two step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Alyssa Johnson of Greenville, Ala.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lauren and Mary Stottler of Crystal River, Fla.; Earl and Kathi Stottler of Starbuck, Minn.; and Gary and Debbie Stottler of Princeton, Minn.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Leota and Bucky Maughan of Fargo, N.D., Arlys and John Kreis of Princeton, Minn.; Marjorie Winkelman and friend, Mike of Princeton, Minn.; Connie and Paul McMahon of Minneapolis, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Joan Stottler of Rush City, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Stottler; and nephew, Jason Stottler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Bloomfield Medical Clinic or to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Brockhaus Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
