ALFRED H. STRANGHOENER, 85 (veteran)

Arlington native Alfred H. Stranghoener, 85, of Fremont, died Friday, June 9, 2006 at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Funeral services were Monday, June 12, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. Interment was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Alfred H. Stranghoener was born July 11, 1920 in Arlington to Herman and Lydia (Nieburg) Stranghoener. He grew up in Arlington.

He served overseas in the United States Navy during World War II from March 10, 1942 until Nov. 2, 1945.

On Dec. 30, 1944, he married Minnie Blohm in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Stranghoener lived in New York for 17 years, working with his father-in-law in the family confectionary store. The couple returned to Arlington in 1962, where he farmed and sold seed corn for DeKalb. He retired from farming in 1988. He had been living at Shalimar Gardens since September 2002.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymen’s League, and sang in the church choir for 20 years. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 71 and V.F.W. Post No. 8332, both of Arlington.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Susan Stranghoener of Norfolk and Paul and Jayne Stranghoener of Arlington; sister-in-law, Avis Stranghoener of Omaha; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, in 2003; a brother, Gilbert Stranghoener; and an infant sister. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The funeral for Alfred H. Stranghoener, 85, of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington.

He died Friday, June 9, 2006 at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

He was born July 11, 1920 in Arlington to Herman and Lydia (Nieburg) Stranghoener. He grew up in Arlington. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from March 10, 1942 until Nov. 2, 1945, and served overseas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, on May 6, 2003; a brother and an infant sister.

The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. and 9-11 a.m. Monday, all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation also will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery north of Arlington with military graveside honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington.

A memorial has been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington.
