MINNIE STRANGHOENER, 81

Former Arlington resident Minnie Stranghoener, 81, of Fremont, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington, with Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Interment was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Minnie Stranghoener was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Gruendick, Germany, to William and Meta (Adamy) Blohm. She came to the United States as an infant and settled in New York City, where she lived for 40 years. She worked with her father in his confectionery store and later at a bank in New York.

On Dec. 30, 1944, she married Alfred Stranghoener at Brooklyn, N.Y.

The couple moved to Arlington in 1962, and Mrs. Stranghoener worked at the former Freddie’s Café for five years, then was a receptionist for nine years for Drs. David and Dean Bloch.

Mrs. Stranghoener was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League; a member of V.F.W. Post No. 8332 Auxiliary; and the Hilltoppers Extension Club.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Susan Stranghoener of Norfolk and Paul and Jayne Stranghoener of Arlington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Doris Blohm of Linbrook, N.Y. and William and Joanne Blohm of Toms River, N.J.; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Arthur Batson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Arlington.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
