Alma Marie (Schneekloth) Cohrs was born Feb. 4, 1906, in Bennington to Henry and Sophie (Luschen) Schneekloth. She grew up on the family farm near Bennington, and attended Bennington grade school and high school. She enjoyed horse back riding and reading and being a bit of a tomboy, she liked to help with the farm chores.

On Sept. 3, 1924, she married Herbert Cohrs at St. John Lutheran Church in Bennington. The couple had three children, and raised their family in the Bennington area.

Mrs. Cohrs was a homemaker in her early married life and then, in the 1950’s she became a nurse’s aide and worked at the Douglas County Annex for 15 years. She was very social and enjoyed going to dances and playing cards. She continued to enjoy reading and craft work.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was active in the Lydia Circle for more than 70 years, and was a 50 year member of the extension club.

Her family remembers her as an outgoing woman who could work hard and required little rest. Some of her greatest pleasures came during the large family holiday gatherings held at her home.
