DALE W. STRICKLETT, 84 (veteran)

Dale W. Stricklett, 84 of Blair, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha following a short illness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, with a prayer service to follow at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dale William Stricklett was born Jan. 21, 1918 at DeSoto to James and Iva (Allen) Stricklett. After attending school in Blair, he worked for a number of years in Omaha.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action.

He married Virginia Zaepffel; she preceded him in death in 1950. In April of 1951, he married Kittie I. McNeely.

Mr. Stricklett worked for Mac’s IGA for several years, then purchased and operated the Blair Meat Processing Plant until 1978.

He was the superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the City of Blair until retiring in 1996.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church; Blair V.F.W.; and Blair American Legion, serving as head of the Honor Guard, and was past commander of the Blair American Legion. He was also a member of the Blair Masonic Lodge and Tangier Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Kittie; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Gary Gaver of Okeechobee, Fla.; Donna and Larry Tietz of Omaha; Laurel and John Derry of Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sharon Stricklett of Danielsville, Ga.; Brian and Karen Stricklett of Omaha; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Henningsen, and two brothers, Clark and Edgar.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
