JOHN STRICKLETT IS DEAD

John Stricklett, who lived at DeSoto, died at the Blair hospital last Saturday, Oct. 24th, after a protracted illness. Deceased was born in Lewis county, Ky., March 20th, 1840 and was married to Mary Jane Pennington Sept. 17th, 1864, coming to Nebraska in 1867. Ten children are living, six sons and four daughters, to comfort their mother in her grief.

Funeral service was held at the Christian church, Rev. H. W. Cox, conducting the service, taking as a text for his sermon Hebrews 9-27, interment being made in the Blair cemetery.

John Stricklett was born in Louis county, Kentucky, March 20, 1840, and died Oct. 24, 1914 in this city. He was married to Mary Jane Pennington Sept. 17, 1864 and came to Nebraska in 1867. To this union 13 children were born, 10 of whom with their mother survive him, six boys and four girls. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in this city, and the body was laid to rest in the Blair cemetery followed by a large procession of sorrowing friends and relatives.

John Stricklett died at the Blair hospital, where he had been confined to his bed for the past three months, at 7:00 o’clock Saturday night, October 24, 1914. He was born in Louis county, Kentucky, March 20, 1840. He was married to Mary Jane Penington, September 17, 1864, and came to Nebraska in 1867. To this union thirteen children were born, ten of whom with their mother survive him. Rev. H. W. Cox conducted the funeral services from the Christian church Monday, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

After suffering from a broken hip and being compelled to lie in bed since last February, John Stricklett passed peacefully away at 9 o’clock last Saturday evening at the Blair hospital where he has been the past two months. The funeral was held at the Christian church at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Rev. Cox officiating. Deceased was born in Lewis county, Ky., March 20th, 1840, and was therefore past 74 years of age. He was married to Miss Mary Pennington in 1864 and came to this county in 1867, settling on a farm in DeSoto township, where the balance of his life was spent. He was trying to get out some wood when he fell and broke his hip last February. He suffered a great deal but bore it patiently to the end. Besides the wife he is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Bert Campbell, Mrs. Smith Holeton, Mrs. Ora Holeton, of this city, Mrs. Frank Hineline, of DeSoto. Also six sons, George and Frank, of this city, Peter, who lives on the canning factory farm, Charles, of DeSoto, and John and James, of Kennard. All were present for the funeral. He had 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
