PEARL E. STRICKLETT, 95

Pearl E. Stricklett, 95, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at the Carter House in Blair.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Pearl Eulala (Svendgaard) Stricklett was born Sept. 8, 1909 on a farm near Orum. She was the youngest of nine children born to Peter and Emma (Jensen) Svendgaard.

As a youngster, she rode a horse to March School, and later by horse and buggy, which she drove herself, picking up friends and relatives along the way - - an early version of the school bus. She graduated from Blair High School in 1927.

On July 31, 1929, she married Peter Stricklett Jr. They made their home in Blair with their four children.

Mrs. Stricklett lived her entire life in Washington County. She was a granddaughter of Soren Jensen, one of Washington County’s original settlers. She was very proud of her family heritage and the large Jensen picnics each summer kept her “in the loop” as to the whereabouts of her many aunts, uncles and cousins. The Svendgaard family picnic provided the same opportunity.

She was happiest when she was surrounded by her children and their families. If she could have had her way, they would have all lived in Blair.

She enjoyed entertaining in her home; her daily crossword puzzle; playing bridge with her friends; and various card games with her family -- she never turned down a good card game.

She was a 75-year member of the First United Methodist Church and a long-time member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Deane and Virgene Stricklett of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Gary Johnson of Surprise, Ariz.; Susan kaye and Bruce DeBoer of Castle Rock, Colo.; and Patricia Joy and Wayne Stork of Omaha; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Helen Skov, Phyllis Stricklett and Carol Jean “Sally” McVicker; a brother-in-law, Tom Powell; and by generations of nieces and nephews.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
