Gladys Spreen

Gladys I. Spreen, 92, of Hooper died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Hooper Care Center.

She was born May 11, 1918, in Stanton County to Fred and Caroline (Schwanke) Dimmick. She was raised in Stanton County and attended the Stanton County schools through the eighth grade. She married Lawrance Spreen on Aug. 31, 1938, in Stanton County. The couple farmed in that area until moving to Dodge County in 1952. In 1960, they moved to Washington County and finally moved into Hooper in 1969. Her husband preceded her in death on June 6, 1992.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooper.

Survivors include: a daughter, Eileen (and husband, John) Schafersman of Hooper; a son, Leon (and wife, Betty) Spreen of Hooper; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a sister.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hooper with the Rev. Bruce Schut officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Hooper Cemetery.
