Services are Wednesday for Erwin Sprick

Services will be held Wednesday, February 22, at 2 p.m. at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church for Erwin F. Sprick who died Sunday, February 19, 1978, at Crowell Home. Reverend Lynn Williams will be in charge of the services. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Erwin F. Sprick was born in Telbasta, Nebraska, on March 29, 1902, to Herman and Pauline Sprick. He moved to Herman when he was two years old and attended the New England School.

He married Ellen Mengedoht January 30, 1930. Five children: twins, Doyle and Duane, Erwin, Jr., Rodger, and Mrs. Donna Hansen, were born to the union. He and his family moved to Fort Calhoun in 1940, where he lived until he moved to Crowell Home in 1976.

He was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, a faithful choir member for many years and was a charter member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Mariner’s Club. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Florence, Nebraska.

He was a carpenter by profession and, in later years, operated his own apple orchard. He made and hand-carved the Presbyterian Church Chancel furniture.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, and a son Doyle.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Donna Hansen, Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sons, Duane Sprick, Fort Calhoun, Erwin Sprick, Independence, Missouri, Rodger Sprick, Omaha; and two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Thompson and Mrs. Edna Curley, both of Herman. Fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandson also survive him.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Duane Sprick, Stuwart Sprick, Tom Sprick, Jim Sprick, Doyal Sprick and Myles Hansen.

Arrangements are being made by the Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.
