Helen Sprick, 92

Former Herman area resident Helen Sprick, 92, of Fremont, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont with the Rev. Greg Hall officiating. Interment was at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Helen Sprick was born March 13, 1910, in Blair to J. Peter and Dorothea (Pedersen) Wolff. She grew up on the farm in the Telbasta area and attended the Lallman and the Telbasta schools.

On March 26, 1930, she married Paul Sprick in Telbasta. They farmed his family’s farm near Herman until retiring in 1971. In 1972, the couple moved to Fremont. Mr. Sprick died in August, 1993.

In July 2002, Mrs. Sprick moved to Storm Lake, Iowa, to be near her son and his family.

Prior to her death, she had become a resident of WEL-Life in Alta, Iowa, an assisted living community near Storm Lake.

Mrs. Sprick was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont and was active in the United Methodist Women’s group. She was also a member of the women’s County Extension Club.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Sprick of Storm Lake, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and John Huckelberry of Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; one sister, May Christ of Minden; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Elmer Wolff, and a sister, Ann Hass.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Mrs. Sprick.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.

The funeral for Helen Sprick, 92, of Fremont, formerly of the Herman area, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont, 12th Street and Garden City Road.

She died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Helen Wolff was born March 13, 1910, in Blair to J. Peter and Dorothea (Pedersen) Wolff. She grew up on the farm in the Telbasta area, and attended the Lallman and the Telbasta schools.

She married Paul Sprick on March 26, 1930, in Telbasta. They farmed his family’s farm near Herman until retiring in 1971. In 1972, they moved to Fremont. Her spouse preceded her in death in August 1993. In July, she moved to Storm Lake to her son and his family. Prior to her death, she had become a resident of WEL-Life in Alta, Iowa, an assisted living community near Storm Lake.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont and was active in the United Methodist Women’s group. She also was a member of the women’s county extension club.

Survivors include: a son, Larry (and wife, Mary) Sprick of Storm Lake; a daughter, Janice (Mrs. John) Huckelberry of Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Kyle (and wife, Angie) Huckelberry of Plano, Texas, John Huckelberry of Tempe, Patricia (Mrs. Greg) Steffen of Perry, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Justin and Rylie Huckelberry and Bryn Steffen and Tate Hogrefe; a sister, May Christ of Minden; and many loved nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Elmer Wolff, and a sister, Ann Hass.

The Rev. Greg Hall will officiate Thursday’s service. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m.

Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Helen Sprick.
