Harry D. Conklin, 78, of Hooper, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 1, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Military graveside services were provided by the Fremont Honor Guard of V. F.W. Post No. 854 and American Legion Post No. 20.

Harry Duane Conklin was born May 13, 1925, in Craig to Harry and Stella (Cannady) Conklin. He grew up in Craig and was a graduate of Craig High School.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from July 24, 1943, until Jan. 17, 1947, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He attended Dana College in Blair for four years. He then moved to Fremont, where he worked at Hormel’s for 30 years, until retiring in 1979. He moved to Hooper in 1980 and lived there until moving to the St. Joseph Retirement Community at West Point for two years. He lived at the Logan Valley Manor in Lyons for five years, the A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont for a year, and then returned to live at Logan Valley Manor in 2000.

On July 20, 1953, he married Katherine Potter in Minnehaha County in South Dakota.

He is survived by three step-sons and their wives, Robert and Elaine Marsh of Deerborne, Mo., Jim Marsh and special friend Sharon Knoesler of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Jay and Nancy Marsh of Fremont; step-daughter and husband, Kay and Lloyd Goebel of Hooper; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Virginia Conklin of Sioux City, Iowa, Jack Conklin of Wise River, Mont., and Wesley and Arlene Conklin of Fremont; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Carrol Potter of Camden Point, Mo., Donna Ranta, and Lila and George Maslonka, all of Lincoln; 15 step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Katherine, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Gary Marsh; sister, Beverly Tranmer; brother, Donald; and a brother-in-law, Ron Ranta.

Memorials are suggested to American Legion Baseball in Fremont.

Moser Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
