JOHN W. CONWAY (veteran)

John W. Conway, 85, of Fort Calhoun, died Monday, March 20, in Blair. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, March 24 at Fort Calhoun Baptist Church, with interment in the Blair Cemetery.

John W. Conway was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Whiting, Iowa, to Eugene and Josephine Conway. He lived his younger years in Whiting.

In 1944 he joined the United States Navy and was discharged in 1946. He then joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which brought him to Blair. He lived in Blair until 1959 and moved to Fort Calhoun. He was a member of the Fort Calhoun V.F.W.

On Oct. 15, 1955, he married Bonnie Guy in Onawa, Iowa. She survives him, as does his son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Char Conway of Blair, daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bill Nielsen, also of Blair; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Funkhauser of Whiting.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, great-granddaughter Ashley Rae Conway; a sister, Milly Dahl; and brothers, Harold and Bernard.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Baptist Church, the Fort Calhoun Rescue Squad, or the Blair V.F.W.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
