CALLED HOME

Cena Holm was born in Schleswig Holstein, Denmark, on April 2nd, 1859, was baptized in infancy, and at the age of was received into the fellowship of the Lutheran church in Denmark which faith she maintained in the practical experiences of her life. She was married Oct. 7, 1887, to Nicolas Cook, and from this union two sons and four daughters survive together with the husband. Died March 14 at the Presbyterian hospital.

The news of the death of Mrs. Nick Cook came over the wire last Monday as a shock barbed with pain and sorrow. When this paper last came to you the deceased was reported as on a fair way to recovery from the operation she underwent a short time ago.

Life will never be quite the same to those who knew her, while those who were nearest to her will long for her with unutterable longing - long for a mother’s counsel and advice, and a wife’s gentle and loving sympathy. She was a woman of strong Christian character; patient, loving and self-sacrificing. Well may her children cherish her memory as a precious legacy and we fain say a word of comfort to the stricken ones we can but let our tears flow in sympathy with theirs, and point them to the promise, “At eventide it shall be light”.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church last Wednesday at 1 p.m. Rev. Mr. Hiller conducted the services and spoke in words of tenderest sympathy and comfort. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The church was filled to over-flowing, and at the conclusion of the services a large concourse of sympathizing friends followed the remains to the Kennard Cemetery.

MRS. NICK COOK

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Nick Cook of Orum reached us last week, and in the passing of this good woman the family alone are not bereft, but the whole neighborhood nouns her departure and only words of love for her and expressions of grief of her demise are heard on every hand.

Senna Cook was beloved by all. She was one of the kindest women we ever knew, and in cases of sickness or when death visited one of the homes in the neighborhood, she was the first one to minister to the stricken ones or watch by the bedside of the dying, even to preparing food for them and assisting for days at a time some unfortunate neighbor whose home was bereft or where help was needed. She leaves a devoted husband, four daughters and two sons and hosts of friends whose only regret is that they were not permitted to care for her last hours. She was laid to rest in the Kennard cemetery. Rev. Hiller officiated at the services which were largely attended.
