Lawrence R. Ostronic, 74, of Bennington, died June 26, 2001, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington, with the Rev. John Pierson officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

Lawrence Robert Ostronic was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Omaha to Marcus and Helen (Strasser) Ostronic. He grew up in the Benson area, where he attended St. Bernard's grade school, and Tech High School. As a youngster, he enjoyed bicycles and cars.

On Oct. 25, 1950, he married Doris Fleischmann at Valley. The family made their home at several places in Benson before moving in 1972 to their home, south of Bennington.

Mr. Ostronic worked for 10 years at the Union Pacific Car Shops as a carman, then went to ASARCO, where he stayed for 25 years. He worked in maintenance, then became a foremen and finally was a master machanic for the entire plant.

He enjoyed repairing cars, was an avid fisherman, and loved his country life. For many years, the family owned a summer home Ortonville, Minn., where they could fish and relax.

He will be remembered by many for his ability to repair almost anything.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Feeney of Vail, Colo., one grandson; a sister-in-law, Bernadean Tolzman of Bella Vista, Ark., and nieces and nephews in California and Omaha.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Sociey or St. John's Lutheran Church organ fund.

Hadan-Golden Reichmuth Funeral Home of Bennington is in charge of arrangements.
